Acrylic on canvas
16”x16”
This collaborative piece started with Victoria, abstract interpretation of "the grid" – the metro lines, the cris-crossing of paths, the interconnectedness of the city, and the dirt and grime that the rain inevitably washes away).
The colors and shapes called to Tina who chose to fill in the gaps with a merchant’s daughter from Bengali folklore who was thrown out of her home for daring to live independently and make her own fortune. A misunderstanding starts a series of random events which include a magical fan that summons a prince called Sobur (Arabic : ṣabr, “patience”). Despite having complicated and toxic familial relationships, the woman displays loyalty and grace.
